About Francis Minien

Francis Minien is a British Photographer, born in Reading, England in 1977. He received his BA in History and Media Studies (Lens Based) from De Montfort University, Leicester, England in 1999 and completed his MA in Photography also from De Montfort University in 2005. Awards for his work include several nominations and Honorable Mentions as part of the Photography Masters Cup, nomination and winner in the Black and White Spider Awards and nominations as part of 2009 Michael H. Kellicutt, 2010 Rogue Gallery Photography and 2010 Photographer’s Forum’s International juried photography show’s. More recently he was chosen as part of the official 2011 selection for the Prix de la Photographie, Paris (Px3).

He has been Associate of the Royal Photographic Society (ARPS) for the past 6 years. His work has been published internationally by the likes of London Independent Photography Magazine, Photographers Forum and Silvershotz. His work has also been published in Art compendium’s A Published Gallery and The Best of Worldwide Photography Volume I, as well as several web based forums. In 2010 he released his first Self Published book Festival: A View from the Crowd. His work has also been acquired by a number of private collectors.

He has exhibited extensively in group and solo shows in the UK and also the US, most recently his latest solo show in New York at Soho Photo Gallery. He has also curated a number of exhibitions including the work of 16 photographers in A Global 24 hours at the inaugural Biennial Poole Photography Festival in 2004.

In the last few years he has been working with NGO’s working on various issues from raising awareness to the needs of New Orleans, 5 years on from Katrina to addiction centre’s in Kolkata, India. More recently two Microfinance organizations (Accion USA & Opportunity Fund), documenting their work with borrowers most recently for an Exhibition at the Microfinance USA conferences in San Francisco 2010 and in New York in 2011. His Microfinance work has also extended to India through the Bankers Without Borders program and the Grameen Foundation, dealing with two institutions working in West Bengal with women in rural areas (BJS & Village Financial Services). He is currently working on a new project with the National Black Theatre, Harlem New York City.

He currently lives and works in New York City where he relocated from the UK in 2006
